About Chagrin Valley School

Chagrin Valley School is a full-time, self-directed learning, inclusive program run by child-led democracy for ages 5-18. We aim to create a safe space for all children where teaching and learning naturally emerge from the child’s own curiosity, interactions and exploration.

The program is based on the principles that a child’s best guide is their own free will and that being part of a true democracy helps develop respect, accountability, and responsibility.  Our goal is to help our children grow and flourish, and to create their own meaningful and satisfying lives

A child must be engaged to build knowledge, and engagement is best when secured by the child’s personal interest and intrinsic motivation.”

New Ultra-Local
Online Farmers Market!

The Food Shed is a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded with the mission of rebuilding a local food system for northeast Ohio. From supporting the continuation of small family farming, to linking those farms to consumers with markets, processors, and transportation, pretty much every component of a truly local food system needs reinvestment and renewal. The new online farmer’s market, allows community members to support this mission while sourcing healthy seasonal from small farms like ours.

Chagrin Valley School is committed to welcoming and valuing families of all backgrounds or circumstances. We strive to build an organization that insures freedom, trust and equality.  It is our mission to create and maintain a democratic, self directed learning environment in which we recognize and honor the fundamental value and dignity of all individuals, providing a safe space for them to be themselves, feel empowered, and become independent lifelong learners.
